Namcho Refuge Visualization
Palyul Namcho Dzogchen Ngondro is called “Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand” (Tib. Dzogchen Sangye Lakchang). It is a profound practice, known as “The Four Foundations”. By accomplishing Ngondro, one can realize the nature of mind – an important and necessary foundation for higher Dzogchen practice. It helps to clear negative karma and to develop inner wisdom.
Outer and Inner Preliminaries
Palyul Namcho Ngondro consists of outer and inner preliminaries practice. The outer preliminaries aim to turn the mind towards Dharma through contemplating the precious human rebirth, impermanence, the law of cause and effect (“karma”) and suffering in cyclic existence.
The inner preliminaries consist of several parts: refuge, or entering into the gate of protection of the Three Jewells – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha; Bodhicitta, the generation of the aspiration to realize Enlightenment for the benefit of sentient beings; offering the Mandala to reduce attachment and to accumulate merit; Vajrasattva, the purification of obscurations; and Guru Yoga, receiving the blessings through which one can attain Enlightenment in a single lifetime.

General Instructions for the Ngondro Practice
It is recommended that you do regular practice for at least two hours a day and at least once a week, a full day of practice. If you can practice for more hours a day or for more full days during the week, that will be very good. As much time as you dedicate to Dharma, that much closer you are to Enlightment and you have more chance to purify your obscuration and negative karma quickly, and to accumulate merit and attain great wisdom.
It is recommended that you practice the outer preliminaries for two months (fifteen days for each outer preliminary) and the inner preliminaries for ten months (two months for each inner preliminary).

Heart Advice to the Namcho Ngondro Students
12.07.2009
German Palyul Center
We have so much obscuration from this and our past lives and we have accumulated much strong negative karma. Now we have a chance to practice Ngondro and purify our negativities and liberate ourselves from suffering in Samsara. Please, do not waste this chance. We all have Buddha nature and when we purify our obscurations, we can awake to our true nature.
We never know when we will die. That is why we have to use our precious lives in a beneficial way, this is our responsibility.
Peoples’ work never ends. You have to organize your life in order to find time for Dharma practice. If you work only in a Samsaric way, you would not get much benefit in the end. If you really practice Dharma from the depth of your heart, in the end you would definitely get positive results.
If you have any obstacles and problems during your Ngondro practice, do not worry, be patient and carry on with your practice. I will pray for you and all the lineage masters will protect you.
When you have a chance to start Ngondro, it is very important to complete it. In order to complete the practice, you need effort. You cannot realize the Natural state of mind very easily. Do not rush to achieve Enlightenment too quickly and do not have too many expectations and hopes. Also, do not postpone your practice too much because this means that you postpone your Enlightenment. You need to organize your time for practice and then you will have very good results.
You need to have an exam in order to pass from one class to another. The main purpose of this exam is to check how much you have improved your practice.
I have full confidence that you will have a successful Ngondro practice and you will get good results.
My prayers and love are always with you.
Good luck!
