Amitayus (Tib. Tsepagme) is the Buddha of long life, merit and wisdom. The Amitayus practice removes obstacles that endanger one’s life and the lives of others, including people, animals, insects, etc.
This practice is extremely beneficial for overcoming negativities before the beginning of the New Year and extends one’s lifespan.
The ritual of Che lu is performed to remove untimely death due to obstacles caused by evil spirits and other negativities. During the practice, performed in the last day of the year, participants place their cut nails, hair, and unwashed worn clothing into a receptacle. Other offerings like food, etc. are also placed into the receptacle, with the aim of pacifying evil spirits and other negativities.
Traditionally, at the end of the ritual, the receptacle is thrown at a crossroads.
